Îá ýòîì ñëó÷àå íàïèñàíî ìíîæåñòâî êíèã, è ãîðîä äî ñèõ ïîð æèâåò â ñòðàõå ïåðåä âîçâðàùåíèåì òàèíñòâåííûõ ñèë, ïîâëåêøèõ äâà ñòîëåòèÿ íàçàä ñìåðòü îäíîãî èç æèòåëåé. Èñòîðèÿ, î êîòîðîé ïîéäåò ðå÷ü, ïðîèçîøëà â ìåñòå÷êå Ðåä-Ðèâåð (øòàò Òåííåñè) â 1918-1920 ãã.  ýòîò ïåðèîä âðåìåíè ñåìüþ Áåëëîâ ñòàë ïîñåùàòü íåâèäèìûé äóõ. Åãî âèçèòû ïðîäîëæàëèñü äî òåõ ïîð, ïîêà íå ñêîí÷àëñÿ îäèí èç ÷ëåíîâ ñåìüè. Îáû÷íî âñå íà÷èíàëîñüñ íåãðîìêèõ çâóêîâ, ðàçäàâàâøèõñÿ âîêðóã ôåðìû, ãäå æèëè Áåëëû. Ñïóñòÿ êàêîå-òî âðåìÿ ðÿäîì ñ äîìîì ïîÿâëÿëñÿ ÷åðíûé âîëê ñ ïðîíçèòåëüíî æåëòûìè ãëàçàìè.  ýòîò ìîìåíò ñòðàííûå çâóêè óñèëèâàëèñü, âûçûâàÿ ó ÷ëåíîâ ñåìüè íåâûíîñèìûå ñòðàäàíèÿ. Íî íàèáîëüøèì ìó÷åíèÿì ïîäâåðãàëàñü ñàìàÿ ìëàäøàÿ äî÷ü, ÷üåé ñìåðòè è äîáèâàëèñü çëûå ñèëû. Áåëëû äîëãî èñêàëè îáúÿñíåíèÿ ïðîèñõîäÿùåìó è âñåìè ñïîñîáàìè ïûòàëèñü èçáàâèòüñÿ îò ïðîêëÿòèÿ, íî ëþáûå èõ óñèëèÿ îêàçûâàëèñü íàïðàñíûìè ïðè÷èíà òàê è íå íàõîäèëàñü. È òîëüêî â 1998 ãîäó, êîãäà áûë íàéäåí äíåâíèê ìåñòíîãî øêîëüíîãî ó÷èòåëÿ, ëþäè, íàêîíåö, óçíàëè îòâåò íà ýòó ñòðàøíóþ çàãàäêó... |
